After days of cooking, volunteers and a TV filming crew on Sunday officially revealed the world’s largest Rice Krispies treat at a fundraiser for the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge.
The treat, which was cooked and displayed at the center’s field, broke the previous record of 2,500 pounds by weighing in at a hefty 10,460 pounds.
The center netted about $5,000, after expenses.

Freshman Brandon Nguyen is a hot commodity this year.
“I want you, Shane Chung, Christian Renfro and Alex Campbell in the boys’ 400-yard freestyle relay,” La Cañada's head swim coach, Art Lopez, said to Nguyen after their match against Burroughs. “I think we can win [that event] again this year in CIF.”
Nguyen, whose brother Andrew (a star in the 200-yard freestyle) and sister Tasha both swam in their time at La Cañada High, politely nodded and said he’d rather not do the 200-yard freestyle, perhaps the breaststroke portion of the 400-yard medley relay.
“I want to do my own thing,” Nguyen said.

The end came suddenly for the La Cañada High boys’ soccer team Thursday. Some players collapsed face down on the turf, others put their hands on their head and simply walked off the field.
The quarterfinal playoff game had been played even throughout — a 0-0 tie through the first 80 minutes — until the fourth-seeded Salesian High Mustangs extinguished the fifth-seeded Spartans’ playoff hopes 10 minutes into sudden death overtime.
