SXSW Interactive, which first started in 1994, has become a meeting ground for new ideas, creative technology and, for the most part, all things tech.
The forward-thinking event held this week in Austin, Texas, hosted its first LGBT-focused panel this year, and a common complaint from the audience was that community news organizations are dropping the ball on news coverage of gays and lesbians, leaving the reporting to larger cities.
While we are L.A.-adjacent, should community newspapers offer more LGBT news? The Burbank Leader recently reported on a couple taking on Proposition 8 and the and the Glendale News-Press ran an article on Moonlight Rollerways’ “Rainbow Skate,” an event for the LGBT community in Glendale.
